SCRAP Workshop June 11

This is our end of season workshop. We will take a break for summer and be back again after our September 30th Gala Celebration. This workshop is very exciting because selected works of art from this workshop will be displayed at the SFO Airport Museum Exhibition in January 2018!

SCRAP is located in the Bayview District of San Francisco in a World War II-era warehouse. You never know what you’ll find to inspire your next project or finish off your current one. The materials in our depot change every day, but you’ll always find an abundance of classroom and art supplies, a wide variety of artifacts of inspiring textures, colors, and shapes.

The Depot is loosely organized by type of material: paper, wood, metal, glass, fabric, images, office supplies, plastic, natural materials, beads & buttons, arts & crafts, toys, and more. A large section offers free materials, and everything else is at surprisingly low prices. Proceeds of sales from the Depot enable SCRAP to pay our loyal and hard-working staff, and help support a variety of free programs, such as free material pick-ups, classes for developmentally-challenged youth, free field trips for public schools, low-cost workshops, teachers’ workshops, and more.

What will we create? Highlight projects:

Mix & Match Marionettes: Forage found images from calendars, greeting cards, and magazines to find the elements for your assemblage. Play with “cut-up” and collage techniques to create your own one-of-a-kind hybrid dancers.

Summer Land-escapes: Picture yourself jumping in the ocean waves, building a sandcastle on the beach in the sunshine or camping under the stars in a redwood forest. Then turn that summer scene into a one-of-a-kind haiku book by collaging found text and imagery.

WHEN: SUNDAY, June 11th, 2:00pm to 4:00pm

WHERE: SCRAP, 801 Toland St. (Enter on Newcomb) San Francisco, CA 94124
