Our 10th Anniversary event is only 4 weeks away. Celina is the 9th of the 10 featured artists in our newsletter. We hope everyone is enjoying to get to know the artists better. If you would like to meet them in person and see their art please do purchase your tickets to our celebration.

2. What inspired you to begin your journey as an artist?
I've always loved art, and was fortunate enough to be given art materials as a young child. My Uncle was an amazing Impressionist and used to take us on plein air visits in wine country. Many members of my family regularly make art, so it was very natural to learn. But I've always loved to sketch, paint and once I found it, to create woodblocks and serigraphs. Art was always my favorite subject in school.
3. What do you do to keep yourself motivated and interested in your work? What do you do to get into your creative zone?
I usually hike, or get outdoors, read and sometimes research environmental phenomenon, my sweet family and gardening also inspire me to create.
4. What are you working on now?
Right now I'm working on a few different series, I've got an exploration of water and "Shifting Tides" going, I'm researching tree communities and have had a series based on this going for some time, and I'm starting a new series, which I'm not ready to talk about yet.
5. What does your art mean to you?
To me, my art is a way to explore and communicate about connections and our shifting landscape and connectivity as a species.
6. What has been the most difficult challenge as an artist and who are your biggest influences?
The biggest challenge for me has been trusting my own process and shutting out some of the criticism and established 'rules' for art making. My process is my own, and trusting this has taken me a lot of time. My biggest influences have been Marc Chagall, Ken Morrow, Georgia O'keefe, Jan Mankes, Nathan Olivera, as well as Japanese woodblock printmakers, especially Hokusai and Hiroshige, and Dali's color use. I love to look at art from every age.
7. What has been your favorite accomplishment as an artist?
My greatest accomplishment has been finding my focus and knowing what I'm about as an artist. My work has grown tremendously over the years and I'm loving the quality, process and integrity of my work.
8. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an artist?
My advice to someone starting out would be to explore, read, look at as much art as possible, as well as experiment as much as you can, and keep creating. It helps to watch other artists work, and see their growth over the years. And photograph everything. It's so valuable to see your growth.
9. If you could live in a different artistic period, which one would you chose?
I love the time period I'm living in, there is so much for me right now, I'm super inspired.
10. Do you have a favorite art gallery? Do you have a favorite color? And why?
I love going to see the De Young Museum, it's super exciting! I just love color, and my use ranges all the time, I love to layer it and explore its different vibrancy with light and other color.

About the artist:
Growing up in Santa Barbara, California, Celina Paul developed a deep passion for Studio Art. She formalized her education with a Bachelor’s degree in Art and a minor in Environmental Studies from California State University, Chico. Besides painting and printmaking, Celina enjoys her family, gardening and spending time outdoors. Celina currently works at her Studio located at The Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, CA. In addition, she teaches both formally and on a volunteer basis at local Bay Area schools, as well as summer camp classes in painting, drawing and printmaking.
Committed to walking a path that inspires adventure and thoughtfulness, Celina is a volunteer for many causes, but most commonly enjoys working and volunteering with the arts and with children.
